Sure, but is it ethical?
Well, no. But you can still make a big deal out of what your phone looks like. Why worry if this doesn’t happen to you, right? It might happen to your friends and family, though. (Ahem.)
One common mistake people make with photo editing is simply using filters of “normal” resolution. That is, if you have a photo with no filter applied — say, if you took a shot of your family at a wedding or vacation — you’re in luck! The photo will have the same resolution as a normal image shot with a tripod. But, as the world’s most powerful computer algorithms know, an ordinary picture has all sorts of extra information packed in there that’s only revealed when you use a filter.
That’s what Photoshop is all about.
A common mistake is simply using a filter of “normal” resolution.
So for instance, if you take a photo of your son on a swing set, and have him walk through a door to his bedroom, the filter might reveal the details of the door or the shape of the walls of his bedroom. It might also reveal the fact that he was wearing one of the first pair of shoes available in this store, or that the swing set he was standing on has become a popular tourist attraction in Las Vegas (the latter is in the photo). You’ve just been in a great photo.
To learn more about Photoshop, and how it works, you’ll need to see how the camera software works, which is a very involved process. But knowing something about what’s inside the camera’s internal memory makes your job much easier, and it means the rest of the work is not a huge concern (and can be a lot of fun).
