Let’s start with editing that you cannot see. I like to put stuff in a photo or a document, while I look at it. I can do that while I’m standing next to it, and then I can zoom in and out. That way I can actually see stuff, even if I’m not directly observing it. I like to work with my fingers on the screen, and with my eyes I’ll use my left hand.
What you can’t do is edit that you are aware of. If you do, you don’t like what you see, and you stop what you’re doing; you get an extreme “fear of losing control”. That scares the living hell out of me, and I need a way to keep me from getting lost, frightened, and panicked. And that’s where the “no-touch keyboard” comes in.
What is the no-touch UI?
The no-touch keyboard brings three major improvements.
First, our “mouse-clicked” cursor is no longer visible. When the cursor pointer moves out of view, it turns into a gray box that you can’t see.
A mouse-click on the bottom-right corner of the screen (on my device) brings back the cursor, but it turns back into a gray box. It’s hard to read.
In addition, if the cursor moves out of the view, you know that the mouse is no longer hovering over it. So you can work better.
When the cursor moves into view, it goes into a special animation. It’s slow-motion. For example, a mouse-click can bring back the mouse cursor, but it takes some time. So now it feels like it takes less time to look at the screen.
What is the most important thing for you when using the no-touch keyboard?
There are many ways to use the no-touch UI. The most important thing for me is the scroll bar. If you click anywhere along it, your cursor gets into view. If you’re working in the image editor (like in Adobe Lightroom), you can zoom the image in and out by pressing this space bar. You can scroll around and go to different layers, all while seeing the cursor on a grey box. You can also turn off the mouse if you’re not using the no-touch UI.
