In terms of the workflow, Photoshop can’t do as much as Lightroom, but both have pretty great features compared to other RAW applications you might be using (like GIMP). You can create many layers at once, you can use filters, you can manipulate and rotate images directly in Photoshop. Lightroom, on the other hand, requires the user to go download their RAW, convert it, and then import it into the Lightroom application.
I can’t find a tutorial on how to do all of this in Photoshop. How do I get started with Lightroom?
The best way for beginners is to use PhotoShop Pro or PhotoShop Pro Plus. If you already have these apps, you’ll be able to import RAW files and import them into Lightroom Pro, but this won’t be as good a solution, because you won’t be able to do image adjustments and rotation. In addition, if you already use PhotoShop Pro Plus, you’ll have to download an update and install it on top of the already existing version.

On Monday morning, I published an op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle called, “We Are More Liberal Now Than Ever, But We Are More Democratic than Ever.” I was responding to an analysis of the electorate by Christopher L. Cox, who argues that the 2016 electorate is the most liberal in American history. The analysis, based on the 2008 exit poll data of the National Election Pool, compared voters identifying as independents versus voters identifying as Democrats. It showed that a record-high 54 percent of unaffiliated voters voted for the GOP nominee, while 35 percent voted for Barack Obama in 2008. Only 24 percent voted for Hillary Clinton.
Loftus says the Democratic-Republican margin was roughly equivalent, although he says the Democratic advantage is a tad smaller. He does point out something else — we’ve seen more Americans describe themselves as liberal than conservative for the first time ever, while Trump voters describe themselves as “centrist.” If those trends persist, a Trump presidency will be a far more progressive and liberal administration than Obama’s. There will be a lot of things to celebrate in such a period.
