I don’t know. I just hope you don’t like my method.
Have you used any of these methods for your own learning?
No, I do not have a program to take me through the full learning curve. Each method is different and has its own advantages and disadvantages, so there’s no substitute for getting some help. There are also many ways to learn piano — there is just not much research to back up this way of learning. All the research that exists is in order to prove what an optimum learning situation would be through various methods.

You talk about how the first pianista you meet in the piano class has taught at least one piano student over the past three decades because the “strategy” of teaching it is so intuitive and natural. Can you say more about this? Can we ask you for some tips as to what you might teach a student to do or what you might be doing right now that is helping this student? Or do they need more time?
There’s no question you can’t teach a beginner in a lecture, but you can teach them to play music by doing a variety of different exercises in the practice room. The key is the exercises you start doing first. You can even “get started” for a few days or even weeks. This is called “beginner exercise-based learning.” The theory behind this method was developed by Dr. James T. McConnel in his study of the music of Beethoven over the last half century. It’s now being used in music education everywhere (in music therapy, in the military, at vocational schools).
Once a student becomes comfortable in that first exercise, they do that all the time. That’s the key. You have to go with it. The goal is to become comfortable with the process, or at least not become upset by the process. The goal is to “do something,” not just to “play music.” But once a student is playing music, they really are playing music. They are not just playing around!
That process of creating piano exercises is the first part of the process. The second step is to build the skill, the technical skills, of being comfortable in the process. That means going through the exercises, memorizing the exercises, being able to play the exercises, and then continuing to develop your musical knowledge. The key is this: you don’t have to “play for hours.” But if you can’t do the whole thing in one session, then you have
