The first thing you need to decide is how much you want to spend. The first step toward saving money is to decide how much of your budget you want to save. It’s a good idea to have a “budgeting” spreadsheet with all your cash and all your saving on it. That will show you how much you need and how much you’ll need.
A good start on having a budget is to buy a guitar. You might decide on a low-grade guitar if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on accessories, but you’ll end up saving a lot with a solid-body instrument. As the years go by, you’ll probably save on things like a bridge, pickups, and a body color, too.
You can also check the price of guitars on craigslist, Craigslist, eBay, and other websites – but they’re probably not as good as local shops. I found some excellent deals on guitar parts on Ebay. I have a friend who got a very great deal on a Gibson Les Paul. However, if you aren’t into buying used guitars, you can also try to find used guitars for cheap. When I got a guitar back in 2009, I ended up with a beautiful bass that I had just played a lot and had been giving to family and friends. I ended up saving over $300!
Then go on Craigslist! You will run into people looking for used things. You will probably be pleasantly surprised by the great deals that are on offer. You can make your own list of what you want to buy – you don’t even need a spreadsheet to do this! If you find one of your favorite guitars at a great price, it will be a great way to start saving money.

When I first started playing, I didn’t play “everything,” although I still do. But I’ve realized it’s very hard to get a great sound with a guitar, because it takes a lot of skill and training to learn and master a guitar – even when you play in a band and make it a part of your life. So I ended up with only a few very-good strings and a ton of practice – and that was about it. It’s hard to find great practice gear. But it’s definitely something you can do.
I would recommend finding some time to practice for your first few weeks at home. Play your instrument to your highest standard. Then add some of the new things you are discovering
