The ukulele (in the classical sense of the word) is, well, the ukulele. A beginner should learn exactly how to play it with no preconceptions: practice, play, repeat.
I am a beginner myself: what should I learn?
The classical lessons will give you the foundations for understanding the key components of classical music, but there are, of course, lots of other methods you can use for learning to play.
How do I get into playing music?
Get in a band! Even if you never want to play in a rock group, learning to play music as an instrument can help you develop your skills.
What should my band practice, and how much can I practice?
Your band should practice a lot. Here are some sample music lessons:

How much solo practice should I do?
Practice soloing. The key to learning is getting into that zone. Practice soloing as often as possible – the harder you push, the better you’ll get at it. As you progress, work on your ability to play chords and rhythms, as well as improvising within your band – that will improve your playing.
Can I do everything in my music lessons? How about everything in my lessons?
Yes! If you have lots of lessons, it’s sometimes hard to do them all.
In a group setting, play lots of one-and-two-note solos or single instruments. Try adding a bass, clarinet, etc. If you prefer music made solely for your band, practice the tunes, then add the vocal or harmony parts later. Or, practice everything in the lessons as the main part of the band, and play that way most of the time.
How can I get good at singing and playing the instrument?
If you’re a beginner, learn as much as you can about voice and technique. If you’re looking for an instrument that can get you good at soloing all the time, try singing in a band. If you want to be a better musician, study music theory. And if you’re looking for a band or band leader who can coach you in all those areas, you don’t have to be bad at singing or playing.
I want to be a singer too, but I don’t know how to play!
