How hard? How many lessons do you need? How long does it take to learn your first song? The answer is hard.
Learning a new language in a language that no one in their right mind would ever want to learn can seem like a no-brainer, but if you’re like me, you’ve got questions. So I’ve decided to put together an FAQ (first of many) about learning a new language. In the hopes that it helps you understand and learn the many lessons of trying to understand and learn a foreign language. In case you ever read this elsewhere but I don’t remember which edition you read it in, don’t think I’ve forgotten about you.
What Is it?
To understand ukulele, you don’t need to know much about ukulele at all, simply the same music you can play without any background knowledge like you would in music you already have. But learning it can take some time, time that varies a lot depending on the time of day your day starts, how much pressure you have on you, the size of room you have, whether you have the same motivation or not to learn as you did when you started, and whether you want to learn your new language, or just keep on learning with minimal effort.
So basically, learning a language is like getting taught a new instrument for the first time. There are a lot of things that go into making the process smooth and easy, like having a teacher you like the music from in person, having the right instrument to play it, having the right technique without giving up much, practicing enough to become familiar with the music, learning the language, having a solid goal for yourself and all that. I know it sounds more complex than the way you’d teach a language or another musical instrument for the first time, but it’s a much more simple process. Most languages/artistic disciplines are much more complicated, so there are many more tips to the same thing, but luckily we can skip right to some practical info like “How long does it take with ukulele”? In most cases it depends on the situation you’re in, for example being in London, a nice big room with a keyboard and no distractions might be easier. Or if it’s a small room (like my studio) with just me and my laptop, maybe it takes a bit longer but definitely manageable.
