I don’t know. The difference is so much smaller than the difference between a drum kit and a keyboard, so it doesn’t matter that much. I’d like to be playing all these big words, you know, like, “The sky is blue, the sun shines!” because it’s just silly and fun, and it doesn’t hurt, and it doesn’t sound like “guitar,” and it doesn’t hurt because you don’t know the note, but I don’t do it. I do it. I’m not interested in the actual sound, you know. I’m only interested in the sounds.
You’re into synthesizers now too, right?
Well, I don’t know, for a while. Yeah, maybe because I can’t play, you’ve got to listen! (laughs) Then, I’ve got a lot of money for synthesizers nowadays, I think. You know, I don’t have any more money for the synthesizers. I don’t really like them; I just don’t like making them.
I understand you’re a producer now too, but how does that work?
Well, I’ve done some, I guess, that’s all; I’m probably not going to have anything new in the studio, you know, I don’t like recording a lot of songs, I think it’s more fun to just play guitar, you know. It’s also nice being in this big studio and doing things and recording them when they’re not very good. The studio is where I like to be in the best way. It’s where I get to make mistakes and have a lot of fun; I think you get more done being in a studio, you know.
In the studio, you’re able to do more than when you’re on stage?
Yes, I hope I’ll have more fun with it! (laughs) I’ll have fun doing it, and I’ve always tried making all my records live, you know. I’ve always had a studio. I just recorded all the stuff that happened live, I don’t know really what’s going to be done on my next record, you know. If there is anything new in it, I’d let everybody know as soon as possible.
Well, maybe you’ll have a new album by the time it’s done, you know?
Yeah (laughs) I’ll have new albums, but I really don’t mind that too much, because I don’t
