Pick with ukulele is very effective. The pickup needs space where fingerings can’t be squeezed, and the tuning action works by stretching the string, so to speak. A good pickup will be a little thicker that an acoustic pick, or a very thin one.
How do I use an electric pick?
Most luthiers have a choice of electric or acoustics. Electric pick can be harder to control.
Acoustics, on the other hand, will usually work out pretty well, the tuning of the note, when you can use the picking motion.
Some luthiers recommend that you play with a pick on the fretboard only. Others do not use a pick. For you, that’s up to you and it’s up to yours how good a pick you would use.
One thing to bear in mind is that a pick will lose it’s ability to grip as it gets older. I have found this out when I started using acoustic picks. The longer I played with these pick, the worse their grip became.
A simple method is to start with a flat fret with only a bit of string. After some time, a string will be long enough to wrap around the fretboard. After the string is a certain length, take a second pick and play down the fretboard over the new note.
