Is fingerpicking harder than strumming? – Best Way To Learn How To Play The Ukulele Gameplay

If the guitar is set up to be strummed, this question is easily answered. All three fingers have the power to produce a complex melodic chord, whether the strum of a single string (like a banjo) or a series of strumsticks.

While strumming, the guitar has two dominant fingers, which produces all the melodic qualities needed for a melody. By contrast, fingerpicking doesn’t have a dominant finger, therefore it produces just one note and doesn’t have as many qualities needed. So you can find a more natural way to play fingerpicking which sounds much more like the way the guitar would produce the melody.

Why do you put your fingers through a loop again?

While you may see guitarists performing this same technique many times throughout their set, they also use it to get the feel of a real fretboard. If they are playing a tune with no chords and simply using their fingers to produce the melody, most guitarists would find the effect difficult to replicate. The result is that they lose the feel of playing music with the instrument’s natural feel. The reason this is a problem is because fretboard lines are the basis of how we think about playing the music. Playing with notes only creates discordances between them and creates a sense that the notes are not being distributed evenly.

Because of all the chords in our head it is hard to feel the music when using fingerpicking. And to make matters worse, you are always left with feeling the chord changes. This results in a lot of wasted time.

How do you know if they need something like an octave up?

It’s worth noting that for some tunes there may actually be melodic notes between the first, second, third and fifth fret. If so, then it’s best to use the finger picking techniques outlined above. If you’re fretting in four octaves, it could be a good idea to start up playing in octaves to accentuate the note’s shape rather than just trying to imitate it.

Does this sound like it can easily be learnt?

Although it sounds incredibly easy once you have the practice down, there is a huge amount of technique involved in practicing fingerpicking. It’s not simple, and you will probably need more practice before you can get the feel of it right but it’s certainly quite rewarding for anyone trying it.
