I don’t see it anywhere! Oh no! There must be a middle C, and it’s not in the middle of the string. That would be too expensive. But the thing is, that middle C is the first uke I ever had, so it just seemed to work out perfectly with my ukulele, so I made it. And then I figured out that the middle C always starts at the end of the string, so I just made that ukulele a single-coil uke. I just like it, and it’s always working for me.
I’m always listening to different guys, so I just decided to give Chris Colfer his take. Do you ever do the same two chords in the same part of the song? I’m always trying to write it differently the whole time. Like, a lot of times, I’ve changed chords in a song like “Happiness in Slavery”, but I don’t usually change chords to make it different. I get bored with repeating stuff over and over.
I get bored with repeating the same thing the whole time. A lot of times I write a song where I don’t write the song any more, or I just say “Hey, this is one more thing I have to do this song.” That’s the way it works. I don’t have a plan on anything – I always have three ideas – but every time I start a song, it’s the same three ideas. I just sort of go in, try to do a little bit of everything. I don’t make a decision. There was no planning that goes into every song that I do, though – that’s really not how I write.
I’m doing so many variations. I’ve got a bunch of different ideas just on top of each other, and I’m just trying to figure out how to put them together. I’m just going in and trying to figure out how best to put those different ideas together, and at the end, you know, I can always pull out just one or two. I think that’s what the whole creative process is like.
Have you ever wanted to be a musician, or do you think you’re just gonna be an artist? No. I have no interest in being a musician. I mean, I think a lot of great musicians have music as their primary career. That sounds really dumb, but music and music playing are very good friends in my opinion.
