The ukulele is always a great sounding instrument. This is true with both finger style and standard style ukuleles. It is a very forgiving musical instrument. It is not a very technical instrument, but you need to be flexible with the fretboard to keep the uke to play.
I just purchased an ukulele and want to get started but don’t know where to start. What would be an excellent start?
There is a place where some very knowledgeable people can help you get started and where you can get a set of the most common ukuleles.

What are your opinions on ukuleles, both as a player and a teacher?
I am a HUGE ukulele fan, but I have to admit that I’ve had more success with the fingerstyle style. For some people, this style can sound too complex and they find it a bit too restrictive to play like this. For me, I enjoy playing it in small groups where I can play some of these common styles and also see for myself what they are like. Also, ukuleles can be a great way to develop your playing, since you can practice the chords by yourself and then later on, add some melody and vocal.
Do ukuleles need a pick or a strum?
We use the P-90 pick for our standard ukuleles, though it actually sounds best when playing one finger style. We also have an all-in-one Strumstick that is used to play both the finger and standard style ukuleles.
How do we get to ukuleles?
Most of us travel to a ukuleles show here or there. We have to go to each show and show up at the show. Many of our customers travel all the way from Oklahoma to play on one ukulele, which is awesome because it means that everybody is going to have the same playing conditions.
When do you start charging for a show?
If you’re traveling to Nashville, you should start to start charging. You can usually go from $30 to $100 for a few shows.
