Did Matt Bennett actually do ventriloquism? – How Do Ventriloquists Say P

“To my dismay, I found that every single person was white and they were all men! I’m white with a blue tinge to it, and most of the people I was talking to were white or Asian.”

These are some of the harsh words, and slurs, that one person wrote to us after discovering his roommate’s racist roommate. The roommate, who we will call JB, is white, male, and a former student of the University of South Florida. He met JB last year while serving as a student ambassador in his hometown of Miami where he was working for a nonprofit that focuses on social and economic justice. Upon arrival, JB was shocked to encounter a roommate who treated him with “the utmost unprofessionalism, rudeness with no sense of personal courtesy whatsoever, and in so doing, he was quite literally a ‘no.’,” says JB. After JB and JB’s roommate became friendly, JB learned that JB and his roommate were roommates.

Upon returning to campus for their freshman year, they decided to have a debate about whether their roommate and friends’s behavior constituted racism. JB’s roommate’s reaction to their argument was, “Look at those [expletives]! They’re just trying to say I’m not good enough.” JB responded, “We are white, male, and of course [expletive] them. Let’s get back to them talking about me. What do you want?”

At this point, JB’s roommate started making racial slurs in front of JB. JB was shocked beyond words but decided to keep their conversation going, “They kept on giving us the finger and the hand wave, but we just kept on talking and keeping the conversation going.”

The first student advocate at USF contacted the school’s Office of Student Conduct and Conduct Discipline in regards to these incidents. According to USF’s student conduct office, the Office of Student Conduct and Conduct Discipline found that the person yelling at JB and JB’s roommate was a USF student and has been banned from campus. The school will not be commenting on this investigation.

“I feel [they know] the words they would have to say to me. At the end of the day,” says JB, who recently returned to USF after graduating. “I know [expletive] who they were, but you have to take everything into consideration. We’ve been friends forever.”
