A. L-r-a-i-g-u-r. (Note that the ‘d’ in ‘b’ is pronounced like a ‘r’ and not like an ‘th’,’ as in ‘dough’ or ‘c’.)
Lets face it — people are stupid. As if the fact that humans didn’t evolve to read the signs on store windows, use a telephone, and read the time had taken something that is so very natural to humans and evolved alongside them. And even in the absence of any sign language, being a human doesn’t mean you’re inherently clever or even a pretty smart person. A quick look at the history of the world shows that every nation on the planet is a product of this intelligence that we don’t fully understand yet.

But what if it was so easy to grasp in a language and used by millions? There’s still so much mystery around how to teach a child to read in a language other than their own, so why can’t we learn to read other languages and even communicate with them? What if we could go through life speaking and reading the same language (like in a movie, the subtitles are the subtitles) and then one day be able to communicate directly with those in another language (that only they have)?
A group of scientists from the University of California, Irvine conducted an experiment to explore this possibility but the results didn’t exactly pan out for anyone.
The experiment was performed with a large sample size, so hopefully there will be more to see next year.
It’s important to note that there aren’t any direct scientific claims or conclusions made that any language could be used to communicate in anyway beyond the same things we know and have always known. However, there is one language that is commonly spoken by humans that is also used for everyday communication. It’s called English. There’s many other non-native languages that can be used in a similar way, but English appears to be our natural language of communication and it will always be used without hesitation. The research, which was published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology, is still in its infancy but it’s easy to imagine this technology being a huge improvement over what we have right now.
