How can you help?
Ventriloquists are welcome to visit the NCSN home page for more information and support. All students (from all over the world!) need to complete one of two main courses: Ventriloquism I or Ventriloquism II.
As if you didn’t already have enough to think about, the world needs a new, much better, global financial system, in which people, businesses and economies thrive and grow free and fair, in harmony and responsibility to one another.
And even though we have all the details of this new system now – from the mechanisms governing how currencies and banking systems function to the laws creating financial and legal systems – it will be a good deal less clear once regulators create more effective enforcement mechanisms to keep the system strong.
The old system has not worked well for too long, and it may need another overhaul. And the only way that it will be replaced is through a much more substantial reform and rethinking of the way we finance businesses, and a new, global system of global standards.
The biggest obstacle remains one of trust: we have a dysfunctional financial economy, and trust is still the biggest barrier to the kind of growth we need to make it a more just and fair reality.
There are too many voices arguing that a great “third way” has to be found between the old economy and the new. If only we could all agree with the idea so the two could seamlessly coexist. I know we can’t.
That’s why this week’s Global Innovation Summit – taking place in the UK between November 13 and 18 – is so important. Our leaders will be hearing and seeing for themselves the latest proposals and ideas for how we can grow, prosper and trust as a society – even as we tackle our most fundamental challenges to build a more just, sustainable and free world.
I’m not saying that just one or two of the top executives in the world, or the IMF or the OECD, or Wall Street, or the BIS are the right people to make such fundamental changes today: I’m hoping that some of the world’s most influential people can come together to brainstorm ideas – and I’m hoping they include everyone who is interested in making a difference. No politician. Some business leaders, and people from the non-profit community, some financial thinkers, some academics and business-focused public sector officials.
They will have to debate what kind of economy we want to create,
