I used an old-fashioned masking tape that I had cut up and made some foam templates out of. Here is how:
1) Measure a 5′ x 10′ piece of material from the outside edge to the center line (which is the same for all the characters).
2) Cut a template that is 1/16th″ from the outside edge.
3) Make 5 small “blends” of the masking tape where the template will be.
4) Cut 3 more templates using the same method.
5) Lay a template in the middle over the masking tape. Pin the template to the masking tape.
6) Measure the outside edge of the masking tape at the center line of the template’s center.
7) This is where you will make the foam “blend”. Lay out your foam “blend” with the template on top. The foam should have “blends” like the one you cut.
8) Cut your foam template out slightly smaller than the foam you used for the masking tape.
9) Pin your template into position over the foam.
10) Fold the bottom edge of the template under to cover the foam (this is your “face edge”).
11) Once your foam-faced template is fully folded under, turn it over and measure the outside edge of the masking tape that is 1/16th″ from the template’s center. This is where you will make the “nudge” part of the masking tape. Fold 1/8th to 1/4th of the way into shape as shown in picture 4.
12) Place your “nudge” template on top of the template in place. Pin the template into place using glue.
13) Cut a piece of masking tape that is one/16th″ longer than the template’s “face edge”.
14) Cut a 3/8th″ strip of masking tape to fit around the outside edge of the masking tape, as seen in picture 5. This should fit snugly in the corner of your foam masking tape.
15) Place your template on top of the foam “blend” as in image 6. The foam will now look like this:
16) Place another piece of masking tape on top of the template. This will help hold the masking tape in place.
17) Flip the template
