You can find more about these from the above link, but I’m gonna give you the short one first. It’s the root, 7th, and 9th of the C Major scale.
The key is C, but I like using the chords in their root positions: C Major, E Major, A Minor, B minor, and C Minor. So if you want your guitar solopop to have some melodic characteristics, put A Minor over A Major to emphasize the melodic qualities.

What do these chord shapes sound like?
Let’s try some more simple examples of what these chords sound like:
C Maj F#maj D Maj#6-9
I’m going to start with the first chords. All these examples are pretty plain. Notice how the A minor chord has two sharpness positions? That means that the 2nd degree of the 2nd finger can be sharp or flat. If you want to play bluesy stuff, you need to play this type of chord.
If you listen carefully, you’ll hear what the 2F# is doing, as well. It is playing the same chords again, but with the note on the 2nd finger. Notice how the notes of the 2nd finger is sharp or flat?
If you listen to the bass lines after these examples, you’ll hear the bassline play the notes on the 2nd finger, and then the A minor chord with the 2F# over it.
This is a great way of applying these 3 basic guitar chords to your playing. The 2F# is playing the same chord pattern you’re playing, but with an added note on the 2nd finger.
How many C major chords are there?
There are 3 C major and 2 C minor chords.
Why do the C major chords sound the same as the #3 F#maj chord?
C Major is the most common one. Since it is the 1st degree it sounds the same as the #3 F#maj chord.
That is because they both have the 3rd finger, so you can play them on the same fret. For example, if you played a CMajor chord on the 1st fret, you could play the F#4 on the 2nd fret, so the chord pattern would look like this:
