There are two types of guitar teachers: those who play an age-appropriate, beginner’s approach in their lessons, and those that do more advanced “studio” lessons, with lots of more difficult and dynamic techniques.
How do I find a good guitar teacher?
Go to some local music stores and look at the guitar and drum teachers, and check out their websites to see if they offer different types of lessons.

Will my child come to me if my music teacher fails to teach them the basic techniques of playing?
There is an old saying that “when your children see your mistakes, sometimes you don’t have to look back very far for what you did right.”
Some parents would like to have the ability to see their child’s bad mistakes, but their kids are often not ready to look back far enough.
I would be thrilled if you passed along this information to others who might be considering becoming a guitar teacher. It is worth your time and effort to be better prepared to help children learn the essentials of guitar.

Will you have the music on your computer when children sit down to practice?
There is an old saying that “time heals all wounds, but mistakes make us weak” – but is that true in music?
In the case of our kids, mistakes do make them weak – but that’s not the problem.
The problem is that when they are developing a good and correct technique, they start thinking and feeling that they don’t need the music as their “musical” cue, or the music as their musical “help”.
I have a hard time putting anything on the computer for my young children – I like to just listen to the sounds. However, some of the most successful music teachers will have music available on their computers.
When our kids have trouble with their technique and have trouble with the music, then parents can take over and put the “music on”.
If they don’t have music on there, they will continue to learn that they don’t need it, that it is a distraction to them, or are trying to play the wrong chords.
