A cheap guitar. It’s not a new one, it’s one you’re not sure you’ll use. But if it does last for ever, that’s fine too.
A band might think they need two guitars to do one song. One to play and one for the bass – for bass and lead. Then the band starts to think how good a bass player they are before even considering a backup guitar, or even a guitar a good bassist might be missing. I don’t think it could be any simpler.
If you want to keep using a cheap guitar and you’re not sure of its value then there’s nothing to lose. If you don’t want to go for a good, cheap guitar either then there’s nothing to lose. If you want to change to a good, cheap guitar and get the best value out of your money then do it before it’s too late.
And the truth is you might be better served changing your guitar than changing it to a good, cheap guitar.

This usually means an affordable tone, good tone and a quality body.
The most important thing is that a good, cheap guitar sounds good and that you can play that cheaply. That is, if it lasts a lifetime.
This will give you the kind of tone you want, not that you need – or want – now.
I always use the cheapest guitars first, with a good set of pickups, good pickups for the neck and no obvious flaws or flaws on the bridges. That way I get a cheap sounding guitar without going into expensive or even good sounding woods to give a better quality sound when I need it.
