A: No, because I’m not one of those singers who can just learn how to do it or be in a band and just try to be a drummer. I’m too big (and too tall), and I wouldn’t fit. So I don’t think that’s possible. But I can teach myself to sing — because of my history, where I’ve done so much music; I do things in a way where I can try to recreate the same kind of sound. One thing that I will say is that it takes time. Just because I can do it now doesn’t mean that it wasn’t taken away. But I think you can definitely learn what you have to learn. It is something we all have to learn.
Q: You’re from Oklahoma. Is there a place in the world you’d be interested to sing in?
A: Yeah, in Tulsa, to be perfectly honest. Not to go out and play shows, because that’s a very, very expensive thing to do, but to sing in Oklahoma is a very appealing place. I have a friend, he’s a singer, who’s from Tulsa and he is really good at it just because he grew up in that area, he knows these different songs. So I think it would be good. I don’t know how far I’d want to go to go there. We’re still trying to figure it out, but we’re trying to make it happen.
Q: It’s been a long time since someone had the balls to try out for a part on TV.
A: I think, right now, we have a lot of great singers doing it, doing it well. I think that it’s going to be cool. The thing is, people do ask me and ask people who are like “I’d like to do that on the show” or “I don’t know if I have the courage to go there,” so to speak. I say we’ve been doing it for years, and people get really scared. But I would say a person must really have a heart, or must really be in love with the idea, or whatever it is. Maybe to show them, I would want to come with an outfit. But, again, if somebody had a good idea for a song where they’ve never done it, there’s always a chance for them to just come on and try it out, and it would be just too hard.
