How many notes are in a scale?

In the scale on the left we find the scale length and the frequency of every note in the scale. Note lengths are given as the distance a note is from the centre of an interval.

The frequency of every note in every scale will be equal when every note is a common note in the scale – they are all equally common, but there are many more of them.

For example, in the scale shown on the right of the picture, the C Major scale has an effective frequency of about 1 Hz for every note in the scale. It would be about 1 Hz for every note in every other scale. So the frequency of the C Major scale is 1 Hz. And in any other scale it is equal to the frequency of every other scale.

To find the frequency of any other scale, we use its fundamental frequency.

The European Union will not be able to meet its goal of cutting carbon emissions until 2030 – if it doesn’t find a way to help businesses adapt to the changes and create more jobs, its president said.

“We can achieve our climate change target at this rate for another seven years or so. And if we have a global deal, we will be able to do much better,” European Council President Donald Tusk told reporters in Brussels.

The EU is already well on its way to its 2030 target, having agreed last month to meet an ambition to cut net greenhouse gas emissions by 80-95 percent compared with 1990 levels compared to 1990 levels.

But Tusk said he wanted to see a “signal” that action was being taken in order to reach the original 2030 objective in full.

“There are many uncertainties. There are very strong opinions about how long it will take for countries to tackle their own problems,” said Tusk, who is also chairman of the Group of 20 leading economic powers.

“We cannot expect too much to happen in the next few months, with very uncertain economic outlooks in some countries. The EU is in its fifth year of emergency measures – we are not alone,” he said.

In addition to energy-saving measures including an aggressive roll out of green building technologies, which help reduce emissions within power stations, the EU is looking at new strategies around reducing air pollution.
