To make sure you can sing, go ahead and do a rehearsal. You don’t have to know the words. But if you can sing a simple melody, try to sing it over the top of the others you’re working on. When you get your basic solo, do a couple of practice songs of your own to get the sound down.
Is it true that I can only sing in Japanese?

You would be able to learn anything about Japanese if you were to take it up and put yourself into the situation. It won’t become impossible for you to sing in Japanese if you want to. Many people who get good performances do not have a strong background in the language and are not comfortable with performing in a public setting. They don´t have the ability to sing in the language. However, the problem with this is that as a result of this lack of experience, everyone will end up singing in the way they do.
How should I learn Japanese?
I would suggest the following for the first few lessons:
Learn the alphabet. Practice the reading of sentences. Practice learning new words. Practice reading poetry. Write Japanese as you read and write sentences. It doesn´t have to be written on paper, or you can use a character dictionary. Learn how to read and write simple grammatically correct sentences.
If I can’t learn any Japanese, should I quit Japanese teacher training?
I do not think so, but your teacher will be able to teach you better than you are currently making yourself feel. Your experience will show you that the learning of any foreign language, if not to an advanced degree, is more than worth it.
