You sing because you can. If you could sing without any talent or skill, wouldn’t you be singing? You sing for other people! The only reason you’re doing this is to show that you are good enough so you can be the singer for others! It’s just what you do.
What would be the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?
I mean embarrassing? I mean, for me I wouldn’t be embarrassed at all, but a lot of it, I think it’s just just being myself. But I’ll say something like the first time I took off my heels at a concert. I was in a band performing some sort of music that didn’t have a name yet, and I was the lead singer. You know, it was one of those concerts where you can’t tell your own music from the band’s music. You just have to listen, and there it was: I was just doing my own thing, and it was like, “Oh, my God.” It was that bad. It wasn’t anything like what you would say about somebody like Katy Perry or Adele. It was just me doing “Bend Over Boy” or something like that. I was doing it on one of those bands where I had to sing, and it seemed like I was so nervous, and I thought nobody would ever notice me, so I’d just do it. I didn’t put a lot of thought into it, because you don’t do it again. It wasn’t meant to be. I think it just happened because it was the first time and there was no one else around. But, it turned out OK.
That’s all it is?
Yeah, it turned out OK. I’m not embarrassed now. Actually, I’m not even sure there is any such thing as not embarrassed.
That’s how you feel about the things you’ve done?
Yeah, I feel like I’ve gotten to where I’m comfortable with doing it. I know I’ve learned something over the years. So, if people find some way to criticize it, that’s not for me. It’s for them.
Were there songs that you wanted to sing from the moment you became a kid?
You know, it is a funny thing, because when I first started singing, I wanted to sing as much as anybody. Because I got that feeling that I was able to sing anything. I had no idea. I was lucky enough to be at an educational
