In a wide-ranging, lengthy interview with the Times, Trump laid out his position on climate change, a controversial issue for many in the Republican Party, where many believe it is a hoax. He also said that he will not pull the United States from the Paris accord and that he won’t necessarily pull back in the fight against the Islamic State. Here is a sampling of Trump’s speech:
The global warming is a hoax intended to prevent the United States from having a prosperous and successful economy. We don’t know if it is. If it is, we will quit it. We would have not left Kyoto, which was a great deal for the United States. We would not have left the Iran deal, which was a great deal for the United States.
When it comes to refugees, we are so vulnerable. It’s not safe. We talk about immigration, and I’m just saying we are so vulnerable. What amazes me is that we will allow thousands and thousands of people from Syria, from Iraq, to come in, where you have ISIS controlling them. Because we don’t know if they are terrorists. If they are bad people. If they are killers who want to kill us. If they are rapists, and I look at the victims. I have to say, and I can’t believe this. The world is changing. We are all moving together, because we are all being affected in some way by what is going on in the world with the climate.
If they are from Afghanistan, they are not going back. I mean, just look at the way they have torn the country apart. Our soldiers are going through hell. And we are taking this into a second term for a reason. I’m very proud of the leadership of the United States of America, that’s what I think.
