Is throwing your voice real? – How Ventriloquists Throw Their Voice

It’s true. Even now that I understand how the brain works, it’s all about communication between different regions of the brain – between the auditory, visual, spatial and verbal centres – and these are also responsible for differentiating different sounds.

When we hear a sound, the inner ear filters it down so it sounds like an acoustic note, but the brain can’t tell what it is exactly. What do all these areas have in common?

The most important differences between them is we can’t read them as easily (some people can hear them), so they have very little in common. This gives the brain lots of flexibility and the ability to respond to different sounds.

Do you have other tricks for dealing with people who are really persistent?

I’d say it’s more psychological than physical (I’m a big guy, so I try not to be too harsh to people) I would like to be able to listen to them for a few minutes and then say, “Look, it’s OK. You have a bad tooth and it’s going to get better soon. You can take a shower now. You can go to the café, come back and get dressed.”

The more you listen to someone the easier it becomes to get a good understanding of what’s going on. The more we do that in the workplace the better it gets.

Riot police fired tear gas during clashes in Istanbul as hundreds of people, many marching in support of ousted president Gezi Park, were assaulted.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered late yesterday in Istanbul’s Taksim Square, where dozens were detained to face possible charges. Riot police attacked demonstrators repeatedly, tear gassing demonstrators and beating them with batons as they made their way to Taksim Gezi Park late yesterday, witnesses and activists said.

Two women, identified as Neda and Nefi, told Associated Press that police stopped them from marching together to the park that morning. Neda said she feared she had been arrested by police.

She said police then beat her as they attempted to drag her from the square, punching her in the head several times in an apparent attempt to humiliate her and prevent her from speaking out, she said.

She said police forced them to march at the edge of downtown, where they were attacked
