The bravado that the singer chooses to display has nothing to do with the subject matter or with the reality of the singing. As a general rule, the bravado is the expression of how others can have expectations they can’t meet. They expect you to be a good enough athlete or a good enough singer to earn their confidence when they know you fail.
Example: You’re at a concert. The promoter makes you the star of the show and invites everyone in attendance to sit on the stage. You show up, but because there are a lot of women, the stage is empty. Why wouldn’t you sit on the far side of the stage? If the women can’t see you sitting next to them, they’d feel embarrassed by your presence.
Instead of saying that they need to hear you sing, a singer puts on a show and demonstrates how good she is at that technique. She tries to make the women pay attention and want to hear her sing.
How to say it with confidence
Remember, there are exceptions to the rule; it’s a matter of personality preference.
The one example I have where the performer has to choose between confidence in her ability to perform and being recognized as a good singer (because she is in the music industry), is on this occasion:
What is the difference between confidence in a performance versus being recognized that you possess confidence in a performance?
If you need to demonstrate confidence in an area that is different from confidence in singing, how will you be recognized? How will you be able to express yourself well within the performance or in the environment? Does the audience expect you to carry yourself the right way? Will they notice that you’re being yourself rather than trying to be something you’re not?
Is your voice good enough that you feel comfortable giving presentations to your bosses? Can you stand on stage in front of people in the most dominant way possible?
Do you feel comfortable interacting with a crowd of people in a relaxed and friendly manner? Is your natural voice comfortable in a variety of tones? Do you have a well-defined range to accentuate the things you love about your own voice? Do you have the ability to maintain high levels of pitch, vibrato, and intensity?

Are you comfortable singing with people of a variety of ages?
