Each person has a unique “voice”. For us, it’s a mixture of several voices, but you can see which ones we select and create each time we do a voice search. Most of the time a voice is chosen as long as we have an idea of a person’s age, nationality, gender, culture, political/religious affiliation, and how they might respond to our script.
In theory, we could create any voice from start to finish. We wouldn’t know a person’s identity until the voice was finished and we’d also know a lot of other things, like their age, gender, marital status, religion, and so on. It’s a lot of work and it’s a lot of work for a great reason. We want these voices to feel meaningful.
Why do most voices have a female voice?
When you search you can’t search for a male voice as we’re mostly targeting females. When people search on Google, they usually find their voice that best matches the person or person they’re hoping to talk to.
How many different voices have you created?
I didn’t want to create a bunch of different voices. It would take more time and there just wouldn’t be enough room. The idea is to create a few unique voices, one for each of my favorite celebrities. For example, when I search “Brock Lesnar” my first choice is probably Seth Rogen, but I like his work on the movie Inside Out.
I want to bring these voice profiles to life. It’s not about making the most expensive voice, but finding a voice that resonates with someone and fits with their personality.
How do they sound?
The first step in creating our profiles was to decide on our voice sounds. I wanted to make sure they sound a bit like me and not too similar. It was easy to take a look at Google and see how our voice profile would sound on different devices and search engines. I also found that using Google searches on your phone is a great way of finding other people’s voice profiles.
How do you record their voice and why?
We record our own voices in a simple studio. The process is super simple. We have a small recording booth with a small microphone that we place on a wooden stool with a few pillows. We connect that microphone with a microphone stand and play our voice through the mixer.
