It’s not every day you get an invite to a press event held at a venue you’ve never been to, but that is the very same process for the members of the Canadian women’s basketball team as they prepare for their first game of the 2015-16 season.

The City of Edmonton and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will launch a major new partnership to grow the city’s economy – the first collaboration of its kind in Canada. City of Edmonton CEO Brian Bowman announced the partnership today at the 2016 Edmonton Expo.
The partnership will allow Edmontonians to buy, sell and trade in new and existing real estate – through real estate investment trusts such as Edmonton Real Estate Investment Trust and Wood Buffalo Real Estate Investment Trust.
“This partnership is unique in that it will allow citizens of the three participating cities to enjoy the benefits of increased trade with a common purpose, so they can be more active investors in their cities and their economies,” said Mayor Don Iveson.
“Our partnership with the City of Edmonton will provide new opportunities in terms of both education and real estate investment.”
The partnership is designed to offer incentives to investment companies looking to locate in Edmonton to encourage them to invest in the city through tax credits, incentives, rebates and other benefits.
“I am very pleased that we will be sharing investment opportunities in real estate with our business partners right here in Edmonton,” said Brett Van Lierop, Vice President, Global Economic Development, Wood Buffalo Real Estate Investment Trust.
