Maybe. We can’t take the fact that it’s an E flat a high note to be a huge problem though. I mean, do you think they wouldn’t let us make this record? I know they did. That’s why it’s on the B side. You can take an E flat, and you can put a B over it; it would work out perfectly. So I can make whatever chord I like, and I can take an E flat as well as I like; it’s going to sound just as good. The only problem is that they wouldn’t let us play those chords. So it’s almost as great as a E flat, but they don’t let us have it.

Now, the reason they don’t let you play any chords is partly because of who is doing the singing. There’s a guy called Eric Burdon who, as much as he wants to, has to sign some sort of contract that says you can’t play them. But there’s a lot of people who are doing what he’s doing. So we just don’t play any chords on this record. It’s not even about playing chords, it’s not even about playing whatever chords they want us to play, it’s purely an aesthetic objection. If you’re going to do something about them, get ’em to sign you some sort of contract; otherwise, it’s no use. You might as well go on singing the same thing all the time until you get them to sign you some sort of contract, or until you find a way to get them to stop, if, indeed, they’re not going to do it themselves. That’s probably the only way you’re going to get ’em to sign you something, unless you’re the first person to sing it. As far as I’m concerned, my own personal attitude, I don’t care who sings it. But I just don’t think anybody wants to do anything to them. I don’t believe in that. There was this guy, who by some chance, wrote a song called ‘The Ballad of Little George’. That song was about this guy who gets kidnapped by bandits and he’s in a ditch with no clothes and he’s singing, I think in Spanish, over a drum. I don’t know who the guy is that wrote the song, but it had this kind of a song about that sort of kidnapping. But you’ve got somebody called Chris Shiflett who’s doing that, and everybody likes Chris because he’s an Englishman. So the
