The typical voice type for your voice will be what you expect. If it is very short and is not clear, you aren’t quite the same as a woman who can have an extremely short voice and can sound like you are just talking through a mask.
The voice that you are trying to emulate will usually be different than your natural voice. If you want to create a ‘normal’ voice type, it’s best to play around with your voice type by listening to people’s voice recordings. If you hear people have voices that sound pretty normal then chances are you are close to your target type.
If I’m trying to replicate a particular voice or someone’s natural voice, I try to imitate the sound of that person. If something sounds off, I try to get the same sound from my voice. I think of the best way to do this is by making a recording of you saying, “Ooh boy” and recording yourself saying the same words, “Ooh boy,” and I record the same time. That’s my technique. If you don’t like the result do another session.
If the voice sounds right, go back over your old recordings and try to get the opposite results. Do that all over.
Another good way to learn to mimic a voice type that has an unusual quality is by doing vocalizations. If you have a high pitch, try saying two syllables on high pitches with a tone; if you have a big gap in either of their vowel, go into a high pitch again and repeat the process with a tone, repeating the same syllables each time. It is very important that you go into the voice again and repeat the same things, because otherwise you will end up sounding off a lot in the next session.
The only real drawback is that some people find this approach very hard.
For this type of voice, it’s not always possible to create a new recording that sounds exactly like the voice on the original recording.
