What is smaller than a semitone? – V-Tech Stand And Learn Singing Online

A musical note that is less than a semitone. A small musical note is about a quarter of a second long. The notes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 are all in a semitone of one cycle, which is 1/8, so their duration is approximately 1/8 second.

The next few questions are very important!

Why is a note larger/smaller than it should be?

You’ll need to be a pretty good musician to figure this one out. If your scale is just one note, you’d have to find a 1 and 3 in different keys…

…but it’s hard to do that. Just playing a lot of them is not much help. One way to find the notes in a scale is to use something called relative pitch. Some notes are larger than others, so the scale has to have notes that are close in pitch to one another. This would be a great way to find the scales in music you know already, because you’ve already calculated the relative pitch values for every scale you know and got your ratios right.

However, you need to be a skilled musician in order to figure out which scales are close in pitch. In order to find such scales, you need to find the relative pitches for the rest of the scale.

How? A quick way is to use the scale chart on page 39 of the book.

Here you can see that some notes are close enough in pitch to be considered semitones. They’re marked “e.”

If you want to know the scales for every key… (page 64), there are also a few lists available that you can find on the web—you’ll find them near the top of this page. Here are the top two lists: for all keys, and for “standard” keys. The web addresses may be a little confusing now, so I’ve tried to break them down here:

To determine the scales in the keyboard, the best way to do this is to use a keyboard instrument that generates a constant pitch, such as a piano or keyboard. Most of the standard instruments that play notes at constant pitch (such as piano, violin, and drum) do it automatically; some instruments actually generate notes at different pitch in order to emulate sounds with different sounds.

One advantage of using a constant pitch instrument is that you can play almost anywhere with the same notes. For example, you could use a piano to play scales in a jazz band or jazz
